Ken Uto grew up in north central Oregon in small farming community, where his first paying job was rouging wheat fields, and he has been in wonder of agriculture ever since. Working on the same farm thru all of his high school and college years, Ken still found it exciting to go to work the next day. After completing college with a Bachelors of Science degree in Crop Science I went to work for a retail ag fertilizer and chemical company for several years. The opportunity to work with AGRI-TREND came by chance, but has stirred up the excitement of helping to grow crops again. The expertise of all the coaches combined is what Ken sees as a key strength and adds value to the customer. With all Ken’s years in retail, he has gained valuable knowledge and experience, which coupled with the AGRI-TREND network of coaches, will provide a solid foundation for agronomic coaching.

Fitting in Soil Amendments into Conventional Farming PracticesDr. Sukhdev Malhi /AGRI-TREND Sponsored Presentation

Dr. Sukhdev Malhi has more than 35 years of experience in field research on soil, crop and nutrient management for cereals, oilseeds and other crops, and for perennial forage grasses and legumes. His initial work included the measurement of N mineralization from native soil N and nitrification of fall-applied N over the winter and its loss in early spring by documenting the timing and extent of denitrification. His recent research included optimization of canola yields with balanced fertilization including micronutrients, and influence of tillage, crop residues, rotations, landscape, land use, pastureland/hayland termination methods and soil-climatic zone on N and C cycling, C and N sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions in soil-plant systems; feasibility of elemental S granular fertilizers in preventing S deficiency in canola; and potential of rock phosphate and other amendments/management practices in preventing nutrient deficiencies for organic crop production. In doing so, he has made many important contributions to the understanding of applied soil fertility/chemistry and soil nutrient management practices for sustainable crop productivity and soil quality.

Fusarium & Vomitoxin removal with single kernel sortingPer Söderström /BOMILL Sponsored Presentation

Per Söderström is highly engaged in how we handle and take of our grain, especially how to deal with Vomitoxin. Each and every kernel have different properties and we need to adapt our way how we sort the grain. By looking at each and every kernel chemical composition we can today sort the grain in different ways depending on the need. Having uniform grain and without vomitoxin will not only provide us with safer food but also contribute to food security. Even in years with low quality grain, a bad sample can still have good kernels in it that can be used in an efficient way. Single kernel sorting is the solution how to manage the variation.
